healing your mind
STEP 1. question everything!
the first step in the evolutionary process is to become a seeker. a seeker is someone who is looking for truth... looking for answers. we are each born with infinite potential! at birth we are pure expressions of divinity. but, we come into a particular family, social-class, region of the world and culture. we are then systematically indoctrinated into a particular belief system based upon this circumstance. our social norms, religion and diet are inherited. our self-image is also largely a reflection of our family and community environment. this circumstantial indoctrination slowly creates a mask over our bodies, minds and spirits. the way we dress, talk, act and think becomes an automatic expression of our circumstantial conditioning. we begin to turn into predictable robots. little by little, we are wrapped in a mummies cloth. our true self becomes lost; buried deep within. We fashion a social mask for ourselves and wear it atop the mummy cloths. this mask represents who we think we are and how we want others to perceive us. what we have in fact created for us, is a synthetic, fantastical, delusion known as the ego.
the west (euro-america) has successfully constructed a trillion dollar industry; the mass media machine, which constantly bombards us with images that reinforce the delusion of the ego. the media tells us that we are all separate individuals living isolated lives. it suggests that all we have is this one short life and so we ought to seek physical and material pleasures by all means. the constant media images of wealth, celebrity, and differentiation create a self-interest based reality within our minds. this delusional conceptualization is referred to as the 'pursuit of happiness'. accepting this reality sets us out on an endless journey towards the unattainable goal of happiness through worldly pleasures/desires. the western media and educational system continually categorizes us into 'the in group', and 'the out group', cool and un-cool, winners and losers, rich and poor etc. in due time, and especially when children are exposed to this conditioning from a young age; this divide and conquer strategy succeeds at instilling within us deep rooted feelings of individualism and separation.
the public educational system, religion and television work together to limit our consciousness. they each feed us a false version of the truth that serves only to box us into someone else’s reality. this mental slavery is designed to inhibit our ability to discover the real truth. the truth is the light, and the light is empowering. the truth is within you. the way to the light is to question everything! as soon as we begin seeking and questioning, the answers are then revealed to us. the answers MUST be revealed to us, because the truth is within us! the truth is within you!
a good way to begin this evolutionary journey is to ask yourself the fundamental questions of life such as:
  • what is life?
  • what is existence?
  • what happens after death?
  • what is the purpose of life?
  • who am i?
make a promise to yourself that you will truly seek the answers to these questions. chances are that you have been force-fed 'answers' to all of these questions by your parents and family. remember, you were by chance born into a particular culture and no culture has a monopoly on truth. so, if you think you know the answers, then try to learn what other cultural traditions believe the answers are. read diverse books, books from different cultures, watch documentaries, talk to elders and pay attention to your body and spirit to see if the information resonates with you. the truth is within you, your own spirit will be your guide. question every thought and action that you have; let your spirit confirm to you whether or not your present moment experience, and the information you begin to attract is in alignment with truth.
STEP 2. take control of your karma!
the next step is to take control of your karma! this is very powerful and important. karma means action. everything we do, think, feel or say is an action. and every action has a reaction... karma is simple once you understand it. the way it works is this: if you do something good, righteous, or pure; then something good, righteous, or pure will come to you (in the future), if you do something unrighteous, destructive, or harmful; then energy of like kind will somehow, sometime return to you. it is like the universe is recording all of your actions, and you continuously build up a positive balance or negative debt to it (the universe). and always remember, no one ever escapes his or her karmic debt!
in order to be a creator and to have your dreams manifest with ease(as we will discuss later); it is necessary to have clean karma. obviously karmic debt (negative karma from past actions) will cause setbacks as seemingly random 'bad things' (suffering) will occur in ones life; interfering with ones desires and ability to manifest those desires.
there are two ways to clean one's karma:
  1. endure suffering - most people simply pay off karmic debts by enduring enough moments of suffering such that the negative karma burns off. this is not the preferred method for obvious reasons.
  2. transform it - when we perform actions that would normally give us good karma; but we have a karmic debt, then those good karmic actions will wipe away some of the bad karma. good karma can be generated by anything from selfless service to emitting/projecting love vibrations to other beings in our environment. anything to do with peace, love, kindness, giving and harmony will get you good karma.
the key to taking control of ones karma is to be aware of ones thoughts. Our actions are preceded by thoughts; but the majority of these thoughts some 95% are subconscious (for most of us)! so, the key is to become a conscious being, aware of all of our thoughts. a conscious being has enabled her/himself to avoid negative karmic actions by filtering those thoughts out, and at the same time to fill ones life with positive thoughts and actions; which will eventually generate a lasting happiness and joy.
in step 1 we began the process of de-programming our subconscious. now, we are beginning the process of re-programming our subconscious with positive and evolutionary thoughts/impressions of love, peace, joy, kindness, giving, selfless-service and harmony.
the only complicated part about karma is that there is individual karma, collective karma (family and community karma), and past life karma to deal with. they are all related. Healing one’s self necessarily heals the family and community; and we should accept our past-life karma because we are always given the necessary tools in the present life to overcome our circumstance and continue the evolutionary process.
STEP 3. listen to the sages
many sages have come before us; they have walked this path and embarked upon this journey that we are now choosing to follow them on. jesus, the buddah and imhotep are a few, but there have been plenty others... in fact, you may know one or two! all of the information you need to return to glory, purity and wholeness is written in your dna; but, studying the insights of other sages can help activate the divine codes in our dna.
it is important to study scriptures from various cultures and traditions. The spiritual journey of humanity is singular, as we are truly ONE. choose at least three or four traditions that resonate with your spirit and study their spiritual/holy scriptures. for example, it would be nourishing to understand asian, african, indigenous american and european religion and spiritual texts. i would recommend the 'bhagavad gita' from the hindu tradition, your choice of text from buddhist and taoist traditions, the 'egyptian book of coming forth by day' and your choice study of west afrikan spirituality from the afrikan tradition, the 'popol vuh' from the native american (mayan) tradition, the koran and 'new testament' of the bible from the european traditions (not that the koran or bible are completely european).
devote an hour daily to studying the scriptures, and then allow 30 minutes of silence to reflect upon them.
it can be especially beneficial to place an emphasis on your own culture. if your ancestors were afrikan, then you should seek to thoroughly understand afrikan culture, spirituality and civilization. if you ancestors were mayan or otherwise indigenous , then it is imperative that you re-connect with that culture and history; and the same is true for europeans. connecting with your ancestors can activate knowledge and wisdom within you that is very specific to your journey as a spiritual being. your ancestors have gained wisdom through their experience, and that wisdom and experience lives within you. spirit animates through culture, and culture provides the foundation and grounding that is necessary for ascension. so it is important to re-construct ones culture (way of doing things) such that it is once again in harmony with nature and the cosmos. the study of great ancient civilizations is one way to do this.
once again, the knowledge within ancient scriptures and ancestral energy will simply re-awaken the divine wisdom that is already within your veins. so long as you are seeking with an open heart and mind, the truth will reveal herself to you.
